The No One Here Gets Out Alive Update The Doors Don’t Want You to Read
In 2011, an electronic version of my biography of Jim Morrison, NO ONE HERE GETS OUT ALIVE, the No. 2 New York Times bestseller, was to be published by Grand Central Publishing with an all-new epilog chronicling the dramatic ups and downs of The Doors of the past two decades. The surviving Doors and the co-author’s widow have blocked that publication. How that happened, along with the “censored” epilog are now being offered exclusively on . There is also a bonus story telling how the original book was written and a foreword that explains why Morrison remains relevant more than 40 years after his mysterious death.

Flying under the pirate flag of "the `No One Here Gets Out Alive' update The Doors don't want you to read" Jerry Hopkins has published Behind Closed Doors, that includes a new foreword and a new epilog.Jerry Hopkins probably deserved better treatment from The Doors, after all it was the first punch in the synergistic one, two punch release of No One Here Gets Out Alive and the use of The End in Apocalypse Now! that lead to the renascence of The Doors. All he wanted to do was release an e-book version of his classic No One Here Gets Out Alive with a new foreword and an updated epilog that brought fans up to date in the trials (literal) and tribulations (figurative) in recent Doors history. While not going into great detail about The Doors trial and without assigning blame, it seems The Doors and Danny Sugerman's widow Fawn Hall stopped negotiating for the rights to use pictures and lyrics Hopkins felt necessary to make the new version viable. Soon both parties weren't returning Hopkins phone calls or returning his emails, and what is left is Behind Closed Doors Hopkins version of events and of course the new foreword and epilog.
Unfortunately for Hopkins Behind Closed Doors comes after John Densmore's recently published The Doors: Unhinged which is a more detailed telling of The Doors trial and it's repercussions. The book is also a little repetitive in its telling of how No One Here Gets Out Alive was published, but it probably wouldn't be if the tellings were separated by the whole text of No One as was planned.

Behind Closed Doors eBook Jerry Hopkins Nicholas Hopkins Reviews
This is a lousy book which adds very little to those of us hungry for knowledge on one of America's finest rock bands and its charismatic lead singer Jim Morrison.
Not content with the money he made from the garbage he wrote in No One Here Gets Out Alive, Hopkins wants more money for his unenlightened and predictable views. The fact that he clearly doesn't like Morrison comes through clearly on the pages but he is happy to continue to cash in on Jim Morrison's enduring appeal.
it really didn't tell me anymore than I knew, just a rehash of old news, I do not recommend it
You have to be a doors fan to get a lot out of it , there was some new things I got from it.
It was alright....thought it would be more informative...
The intro had a big buildup as to things the doors .didn't want you to know. Most of what was in this book, almost everyone knew! Very disapointing.
Damn. This book is fun to read--Morrison's life was a novelist's dream, and new details are always welcome. I love that he and Jerry Hopkins discovered that they shared a literary agent, and that he was friends with Agnes Varda. The bonus chapter at the end of this book is worth the (very reasonable) price in and of itself--the miracle of loaves and fishes at the L.A. launch party for No One Here Gets Out Alive is every writer's dream and who would ever think Pamela Courson would become a sympathetic figure anyway?
Jerry Hopkins has done it again, with scrupulous research and writing that is both respectful and absolutely engaging. Buy this book and relive your own misspent youth.
Great follow-up to "No One Here Gets Out Alive." To those who are Doors fans this is update information that the surviving Doors did not want you to know. After all these years their music remains as powerful as it did when they recorded it. Few bands can survive the test of time, yet the Doors did and Jerry Hopkins has greatly helped with making this all possible.
